Text classification and gradation in Arabic textbooks

چکیده

Text classification and text gradation are important for language teachers. Profiling readability studies examine textual linguistic features that determine difficulty. Arabic, as an under-resourced language, suffers from a lack of such which results in material developers textbook writers relying on their intuitions experiences selecting appropriate texts. At the classroom level, teachers often supplement or adapt texts they use to suit students’ developmental stages. However, do this based intuition experience well. This study aims sensitise particularly range textual, contextual affect difficulty so, can make informed decisions about suitability how and/or them. Although is most languages Arabic; will be useful resource-rich well since research shows even with systematically classified texts, discrepancies exist between assumed level.
